Whitlow & Crane — Head of Hospital Logistics (Doctorate Required; Mop Experience Preferred)
WHITLOW & CRANE EXECUTIVE SEARCH — HEAD OF HOSPITAL LOGISTICS
Location: Jinan, Huaiyin District. Contract: full time, doctoral. Compensation: discussed at the doctorate.
THE ROUND
Our client, a large cancer hospital, has opened its first doctoral-only recruitment round. Every position in it requires a PhD. Not most positions. Every position. Oncology, radiology, anaesthesia, pathology — yes. Nursing — yes. Administration — yes. Logistics — yes. The mop closet is now a research group.
THE VACANCIES
We are seeking doctors of philosophy in law, auditing, accounting, statistics, public health, computer science, biomedical engineering and — for the post room — an unspecified but terminal degree. The successful candidate will hold a doctorate and a clipboard. The clipboard is not provided.
THE NURSING POST
Applicants for the nursing role should hold a PhD and be able to start on the ward in February. Bedside manner may be demonstrated through a peer-reviewed paper. The hospital notes that top-tier hospitals in Jinan generally recruit at doctoral level at this stage, which is true, and that requiring a doctorate for management and logistics reflects an upgrade in hospital management, which is also true, in the sense that a door can be upgraded by painting it shut.
THE PROCESS
Applications are open for one month. Shortlisted candidates will explain, to a panel, why their doctorate qualifies them to order toner. Second-round candidates will be shown the toner cupboard. Final-round candidates will be asked not to touch it.
THE SMALL PRINT
This is the first batch. A second batch, for master’s and bachelor’s holders, will follow in the spring. Master’s graduates may apply to nursing, administration and logistics, provided they accept that they will be managed by a doctorate in the same corridor. Bachelor’s graduates may apply to be managed by the master’s graduates. Everyone will be managed. That is the upgrade.
HOW TO APPLY
Submit a CV, a cover letter, three references, and a 300-word statement on why you want to work in hospital logistics badly enough to spend four years proving it. Applicants without a doctorate will be considered for the spring batch, in which the mop will still require a master’s.
— Whitlow & Crane. We move candidates forward. Constantly. Toward the door.
