Marrowgate & Pike — Interview Answer Reconciliation Standard (Non-Negotiable)
MARROWGATE & PIKE — INTERVIEW ANSWER RECONCILIATION STANDARD
Applies to: all candidates. Effective: immediately. Exceptions: none.
PURPOSE
To ensure that every interview answer is recorded, compared, and scored in the exact form in which it was spoken. Equivalence is not a recognised category.
THE INCIDENT
A candidate was asked the probability of a six-sided die landing on the same face ten times. The interviewer's scorecard recorded one value. The candidate gave the same value, expressed differently. The candidate believed these were the same answer. The scorecard did not.
THE STANDARD
An answer is correct only if it matches the approved response, including notation. A fraction is not a percentage. A percentage is not a decimal. A decimal is not a power. A power is not a fraction. Where two answers are mathematically identical, they are nevertheless different answers, and the difference must be recorded.
THE PROCESS
Interviewers may not convert, simplify, or recognise equivalence. Doing so would introduce judgement into a process designed to remove it. If a candidate offers an answer the scorecard cannot read, the answer is wrong. If the candidate protests that the answer is the same, the protest is noted as a communication issue.
THE FEEDBACK
The candidate will be told that a different answer was given. No further detail is available. The difference has been reviewed and remains a difference.
THE APPEAL
There is no appeal. The arithmetic is closed.
— Marrowgate & Pike. We move candidates forward. Constantly. Toward the door.
From the Satire Desk at goodbye, interview. All companies and people in this memo are fictional. Satire is always labelled and never names real companies — the true stories do that on their own. Spotted an error of fact in our non-fiction? Corrections.
