goodbye, interview.

True story · recruiter behaviour · Issue

"Stay flexible": one final round, rescheduled four times.

As told to the Host · Storyteller verified · Senior backend engineer · logistics unicorn · company on file

Five weeks of calendar Tetris across three time zones. The fourth reschedule arrived 40 minutes before the call, while J. was already in the waiting room.

J. interviewed with a logistics unicorn for a senior backend role. The process: screening, technical interview, a take-home that took about 8 hours, then the promise of a final conversation with the CTO.

That final never happened.

First reschedule: "CTO has a conflict, can we do Thursday?" Second: "Actually, Friday works better for the team." Third: "The CTO is traveling — we'll reach out next week." Fourth: 40 minutes before the Monday reschedule, while J. was already in the Google Meet waiting room: "Can we push to later this week?"

No fifth date was ever offered. The recruiter stopped responding to emails.
