A developer applied for what DaVita listed as a remote role. Minutes into the screening call, the hiring manager revealed it required out-of-state relocation with no assistance. The process then unfolded across eight interview rounds, two of which were unpaid projects solving actual business problems for the company. When asked for more, the developer replied: 'My consulting rate is $300 an hour. Send over the scope and I'll invoice you.' The hiring manager erupted, lecturing the candidate about 'your lazy generation.' The developer laughed and ended the call. Reddit awarded him a standing ovation.
