Two interviews. The second one ended with an offer, made on the spot — no take-home, no panel, no four weeks of “we’ll circle back.”

A week later the candidate walked back into his old job and handed in his notice.

That is the whole story, and that is the point. The process did not need eight rounds to know what it knew after two, and it said so in the room, out loud, before the candidate had left the building.
