# Told He Was a Perfect Fit — Then Ghosted Into a Form Rejection

**[TRUE STORY]** — by Candidate · via r/recruitinghell

Laid off three and a half months ago, the candidate had grown used to “almost, but not quite.” Being told they were overqualified was frustrating, but at least it made sense. What they could not stomach was what came after a great interview.

It happened more than once. In one version, it was the first interview: they were told they blew it out of the park, that they were exactly what the team was looking for, and that someone would be in touch within a couple of days to schedule the next one. In another, it was the final round: they had nailed it, the team wanted them, they just had to finish that week’s remaining interviews and would follow up on Monday or Tuesday.

And then: silence. Monday passed. Tuesday passed. A week, sometimes longer. They followed up. Nothing. One to two weeks later, a form rejection arrived — the same email, it seemed, the company had ready all along.

Being told you are the perfect fit was the part that stuck. It is not encouragement if the next thing you hear is a template.
