# Three Interviews and a Final Presentation — Then the Blame for Walking Away

**[TRUE STORY]** — by Candidate · via X / News18

The role was a project engineer’s. Three interviews in, the candidate had given the company a full afternoon of their time, and the next ask was a final presentation — a piece of work to prepare on their own time, for free, before any offer had been made.

They declined. Not the job — the next assignment. They told the company they had already given enough of their time to the process, and withdrew.

The hiring manager did not let it go quietly. In a post that circulated widely, they presented the withdrawal as a verdict on the candidate: someone unwilling to complete one more step, they suggested, was not serious about the role.

The candidate’s reply became the line people shared: “Three interviews and free homework? They didn’t withdraw too early. You took too long to hire them.”

By the time the exchange went viral, the argument had outgrown the two of them. The complaint was familiar to everyone who had done the homework, sat the extra round, and waited — only to watch the company blame the candidate for leaving a process that never seemed to end.
