# The Offer Was $95,000 and Four Months Alone.

**[TRUE STORY]** — by Candidate · via r/careerguidance

He was managing hotel operations for around $54,000 when he applied for a resort operations manager role. Three interviews later, the offer arrived: $95,000 plus free accommodation. Nearly double his salary, a general manager title, and a move he could justify to anyone.

Then they explained the winter arrangement.

The resort closes to guests for four months. Whoever holds the position stays on the property alone through the closure — overseeing maintenance, checking for storm damage, coordinating contractors when something needs fixing. It is a large property on a lake, about an hour from the nearest proper town. The isolation is not an occasional inconvenience. It is the job for a third of the year.

They mentioned, in passing, that the previous manager left halfway through winter. He could not handle being there alone.

His family thinks he is insane for even considering it. He understands why. But the arithmetic is hard to walk away from: nearly double the money, a title that would follow him, and the sense that opportunities like this do not come twice.

What he cannot tell yet is whether he is looking at a career step or a very well-paid way to find out what four months of silence does to a person. The offer is still open. He is still deciding.
