# The Interview Question About Marriage and Children

**[TRUE STORY]** — by Candidate · via r/recruitinghell

A fresh graduate, twenty-three, on the last stretch of an on-site interview for an engineering role. The hiring managers had explained the job would mean being on call and available at any hour to go to site. She said that was fine. She wanted the job.

Then, at the end, one of them asked her how she would manage the role once she got married and had children. She was stunned, and said so — that the question felt personal, and that she was, it seemed, being assessed on how she would run her hypothetical family.

She posted it to ask whether she was overreacting. The replies were near-unanimous, and not about overreacting.
