# References Called the Same Day

An interview on a Tuesday — and the company called the candidate's references the same day. The silence that followed read like bad news, so on Friday the candidate sent a follow-up. It turned out the company had been trying to reach them: they'd texted on Tuesday night to ask whether the candidate was still interested. The messages had gone unseen. One missed call, and a yes that had been waiting there since Tuesday.
