His father tells it. The son applied for an entry-level sales position, the hiring manager liked him, and an offer was made. Then HR stepped in and rescinded it - because the son did not have the "proper degree" for the sales department.

The punchline: the son holds the same degree as the company's founder and CEO. An offer died because the person who wanted to hire him lacked the right piece of paper, and the person who signed the paperwork has that exact piece of paper.
