# He Didn’t Apply for the Job. He Messaged the CMO.

**[WIN]** — by Candidate · via Moneycontrol

In 2021 he was earning six lakh rupees a year and not looking for work. He was curious, he said, about what the market thought his skills were worth — so he sent a cold message on LinkedIn, and an email, to the chief marketing officer of a B2B company. No connection, no mutual contacts, and no request for a job.

The CMO replied within a few days. That led to multiple rounds of interviews.

He did not sail through. In the final discussion with the CMO he struggled to answer several questions, and left convinced he had done badly.

Then the offer arrived: seventeen lakh rupees a year — roughly three times what he was earning. When he later asked why, the CMO said it was not technical mastery that had decided it. It was his enthusiasm, his curiosity, and his willingness to learn — the belief that he could close the gaps within a few months.

He turned the offer down in the end for another role that let him work remotely, but he called the whole thing a turning point: proof that a direct approach could open a door no application had. He now runs a marketing agency and an AI startup.
