# A Founder Nearly Rejected Him for "Terrible" English. He's Now the Best Hire.

**[WIN]** — by Founder of Fingrowth Media · hired for the work, not the accent · via News18

The founder of Fingrowth Media, Kanan Bahl, nearly turned away a candidate from a Tier-2 city whose English he describes as terrible. The candidate had aced the sample task; the hesitation was a client-facing role. Bahl hired him anyway, encouraging him to communicate confidently in Hindi. The hire is now his best, and Bahl argued the decision publicly: "Speaking good English is important, but it isn't a barometer of your intelligence or capabilities." News18 covered the story on August 20.
